A different state and a different winter
Truckee is in Nevada County, California, so the Town of Truckee and California's building code are in charge instead of Washoe County. Different permit desk, different rules, and a separate state contractor license. It also sits around 5,800 feet, right in the path of Sierra storms that can drop hundreds of inches of snow in a winter.
What we pour up here is shaped by snow and slope. Driveways with real grade and somewhere to put the snow, entry steps and landings, walks that get shoveled and blown all winter, garage floors, and heated slabs where clearing by hand just isn't realistic.
Frost, snow and a short season
Frost goes a lot deeper here than in Reno. Steps, porches and posts need footings below that line, or frost lifts them a little every winter until they fail. The Town of Truckee sets the depth, and we confirm it for your project instead of guessing. Shallow step footings are one of the most common failures we get called to look at up here.
Snow drives the design, too. Site plans here have to show where snow goes when it's cleared, and plow blades are the number one cause of busted slab edges. We shape edges to take a hit, keep joints and decorative borders out of the plow path, and ask you to use sand instead of ice melt on new concrete the first winter.
Then there's the calendar. The reliable window is about June through September, with May and October up to the weather. Everyone in town is working in that same window, so if you want a pour next summer, call this winter.

How deep do footings need to be in Truckee?
A lot deeper than in Reno. The Town of Truckee sets the required depth, and we confirm it for each project. Getting it wrong isn't cosmetic. A footing above the frost line gets lifted every winter, and the only real fix is rebuilding it deeper.
What license does a Truckee job need?
A California contractor license, which is separate from a Nevada one. Whoever pours your Truckee job should be able to hand you a current California license number and an insurance certificate without hesitating, and you can check the license on the state's website in a minute.
Is a heated driveway worth it here?
On a steep Truckee driveway, more often than most places. We lay the tubing and pour over it, and your mechanical contractor handles the boiler and controls. Plan it before the pour, since adding it later means tearing out the concrete. It costs real money to install and to run, so it's a case-by-case call.
